Alberta Health Services - North Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician with an additional year of training in Care of the Elderly to join the Senior's Healthcare team and establish a full-time practice in the community of Fort McMurray.
Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.
The successful candidate will offer services, including but not limited to Willow Square Continuing Care Centre & Northern Lights Regional Hospital.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of Fort McMurray.
- Establish and maintain full-time community-based practice within the community.
- Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services.
- Apply knowledge of local health, social, and voluntary services, and resources to design personalized care plans for older patients.
- Co-ordinate patient assessments with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health care professionals.
- Synthesize the results of patient assessments with those of other healthcare teams.
- Participate in case conferences designed to co-ordinate activities and plan preferred management strategies for older patients.
- Promote health maintenance and disease prevention for all older patients.
- Recommend and mobilize resources to help patients maintain stay in their community.
- Confer with health and community members to ensure that health and social services are in place and serving older patients in a satisfactory manner.
- Provide hospital on-call coverage for elderly patients, as required.
- Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.
- Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine.
- Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
- Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.
Requirements:
- Current Alberta Practice Permit or valid CPSA Letter of Eligibility to practice in the advertised position (proof of to be included with application).
- Recent hands-on experience within the past 2 years in all areas of practice noted within the Description, as the sole provider.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
- Sole provider of Elderly Health services (Certification Required).
- Rural Emergency Room Experience.
