Job Description

General Internal Medicine Posting

Hamilton Health Sciences has an exciting opportunity for two (2) full-time General Internal Medicine Specialists.

West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) has been caring for West Niagara residents for over 70 years. As a community hospital, WLMH provides both inpatient services and outpatient services including 24/7 emergency services, low-intensity rehabilitation, palliative care, surgery, maternal, newborn care, and Internal Medicine consultation support for inpatients, Emergency Department, and outpatient community support. As a site of Hamilton Health Sciences, WLMH also serves as a point of access to one of the largest health systems in Canada for patients requiring more specialized care. We will help with establishing a Faculty appointment with McMaster University for the successful candidates with the expectation to provide teaching to medical trainees at various levels to expand the General Internal Medical Academic program at WLMH.

WLMH is in the process of redevelopment, with the new facility slated to open in 2025. The new hospital will have a more expansive outpatient department dedicated for varied specialties including a larger GIMRAC clinic, Internal Medicine outpatient clinic space, a procedure room, and more areas to allow for dedicated teaching. Additionally, the new hospital will double the current operative capacity with the expansion of low-risk outpatient surgeries for Hamilton Health Sciences. Joining our team presents an exciting opportunity to expand the General Internal Medicine Academic vision at WLMH and work in a brand-new hospital come 2025.

Qualifications: Interested applicants must have an FRCPC in Internal Medicine, a commitment to teaching medical trainees, and be eligible for a license to practice in Ontario. Candidates with an interest and experience in teaching are encouraged to apply. Applicants must also satisfy the credentialing requirements of Hamilton Health Sciences.

Applicants should be comfortable in providing critical care to patients in our level 2A ICU. Experience and independence in bedside procedures: including central line placement, arterial line placement, LP, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and arthrocentesis is needed.

The expectations include provision of on-call coverage at the hospital, provision of coverage in the GIMRAC clinic, as well establishing an outpatient practice to provide consultations and follow-up for community patients. The outpatient practice can be provided in an outpatient community setting (private office) or within the ambulatory care space in the new hospital.

The successful candidate will also be able to supervise and interpret exercise treadmill stress tests and be part of the pool of clinicians interpreting ECGs, spirometry, PFTs, and holter monitors.

Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) fosters a culture of patient and staff/physician safety, whereby everyone is guided by our Mission, Vision, Values, and Values Based Code of Conduct, including aligning with the journey of the 2023-28 Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Plan. HHS is a teaching hospital and all staff and physicians are expected to support students and other learners.

As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Employee Health Services.

To apply, please submit your CV and letter of interest by no later than March 22, 2024 to Dr. Shervin Zandi, Internal Medicine Site Lead at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, at zandiriahi@hhsc.ca.
