Sensenbrenner Hospital, Kapuskasing Ontario is seeking an Emergency Department Locum for the following dates:
Sensenbrenner Hospital is a modern 68-bed fully accredited teaching hospital which serves a population of 8,600 and a catchment area of approximately 11,000. Kapuskasing is a true Northern Ontario community with ample options for year-round outdoor recreation in a beautiful setting. Kapuskasing offers the amenities of the larger centres.
Accommodations and transportation are reimbursed by the GP/Vacancy Program as per their guidelines for locum physicians. Fully furnished apartments are available in a newly built building across from the hospital parking lot. We also have dedicated on call rooms for ED physicians. Locums typically fly into the Timmins airport prior to driving 2 hours northwest to Kapuskasing.
Average patients in a 24-hour shifts are between 20-30 and can go up to 40 on a very busy day. You can work a day shift 8 am to 6 pm, night shift 6 pm to 8 am or a 24-hour shift 8 am to 8 am. There is a Hospitalist on site from 8 am to 5 pm daily for admissions. After hour admissions are done by the Emergency Physicians and the hospitalist takes over in the morning.
Sensenbrenner Hospital has three General Surgeons, one GP Anesthesia, one General Internist as well as seven Family Physicians. Two of our local family physicians cover OB. We have a supportive, team-based environment. Our longstanding and experienced medical staff are very supportive and helpful should you have questions during your shift.
Diagnostic imaging (including CT), electrocardiography, lab, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, chemotherapy, are available locally. Virtual Critical Care is available for critically ill patients. Orthopaedic surgery, ENT, OBS/GYNE, pediatrics, and psychiatry services are available through our relationship with Timmins and District Hospital. Other specialty services are available through Health Sciences North and Criticall Ontario.
