Job Summary:
To manufacture eyeglasses to the prescription of the member as given by the Vision Services provider.
Essential Responsibilities:
- In Bench Area: First inspection of lenses to verify that the lenses were accurately manufacturer as specified on the job ticket.
- Block lenses prior to edging according to the spotted axis.
- Performs lens-edging activities by the use of precision measuring and edging equipment, hand grinding machines and specialty tools in accordance with professional standards for accuracy and quality.
- Mounts lenses into frame, aligning bifocals and axis, and checking for four-point alignment on plan frames.
- Tints or UV coats lenses according to work order specifications.
- Perform final inspection to verify that the prescription was accurately manufactured according to the job ticket and meets ANSI standards.
- Performs routine housekeeping duties such as cleaning, labeling, stocking and/or restocking of products, keeping all areas of the lab clean, free from clutter, and in an orderly manner.
- Fills in for contact lens distribution as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the optical lab manager or his/her assistant.
- In Surface Area: Accurately blocks lenses according to job ticket.
- Generates lenses to the correct curve as specified on job ticket.
- Picks correct tool for each eye as specified on the job ticket.
- Picks correct tool for each eye as specified on the job ticket.
- Polishes lenses for pre-determined amount of time following all set procedures.
- De-blocks and thoroughly cleans all blocking residue from lenses.
- Inspects lenses for cosmetic flaws and Rx accuracy.
- Backsides coat specified lens material.
- Performs routine housekeeping duties such as cleaning, labeling, stocking and/or restocking of products, keeping all areas of the lab clean, free from clutter, and in an orderly manner.
- Fills in for contact lens distribution as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the optical lab manager or designee.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a manufacturing eyewear required.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education - High School Graduate or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration - American Board of Opticianry Basic Certification within 12 months of hire
Additional Requirements:- General knowledge of optical theory, optical practices, and national standards for accuracy and quality required.
- Ability to be attentive to detail required.
- Ability to stand for duration of shift required.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds required.
- Good hand/eye coordination required.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
