The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Division of Cardiology of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS) are seeking to recruit a qualified full-time Clinical Academic Cardiologist with expertise in heart failure and hemodynamics, digital health, to be based at the Mount Sinai Hospital, 600 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 1X5. The successful candidate would fulfil the academic position description of Clinician Investigator or Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI) and must be eligible for academic appointment at the minimum rank of Assistant Professor of the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is June 3, 2024 or as mutually agreed upon.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated academic potential in the field of Digital Health, Quality and Innovation through research. A focus on equity, inclusion and diversity is important. They will be PhD prepared with a focus in Digital Health, innovation or CQI. They will have completed a minimum two-year Heart Failure fellowship. The successful candidate will have fellowship training in the management of heart failure and the care of patients with critical and complex illness. The candidate will have appropriate experience or formal training in Digital Health, such that he/she/they will be able to develop and maintain a programmatic and innovative Digital Health program. The focus of these programs should align with the UHN Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology strategic initiatives. Expertise in virtual care and development of novel models of health care delivery in chronic disease are strengths.
The clinical position involves coverage of in-patient service and outpatient management of heart failure is expected. A graduate degree relevant in translational research or equivalent, and a proven record of academic excellence in clinical research and digital health are strong pre-requisites. Academic excellence will be measured by successful development, production and execution of digital health applications, evidence of practice and/or equipment innovations, peer-reviewed publications, invitations to significant conferences and speaking engagements, and accolades. The successful applicant will have demonstrated the capacity for independent academic activity in the field of cardiology, and he/she/they is expected to advance the scholarship of digital health, quality and innovation as it pertains to the management of heart failure.
The successful candidate will report to the Division Director of Cardiology at UHN/SHS. Candidates must hold an MD degree or equivalent and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The primary language of work will be English. Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed, (estimated based on fee for service billing) but will be in the usual range for an experienced academic Cardiologist in the Province of Ontario, $242,000 to $300,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional sources of income from Alternate Funding Plans (AFPs) and merit awards from the Department of Medicine may be available. Health benefit options and plans are supplied per institutional policy. In addition, the candidate may be eligible for up to $5,000 in start-up costs for office expenses.
