Why Fraser Health?
Bring your clinical expertise, dedication, and passion for providing quality and compassionate care to a challenging and rewarding role as a Cardiac Consult Nurse Practitioner in the context of team-based care- the first of its kind! As B.C.’s oldest hospital, and one of its busiest, Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) provides expert care to the province’s most seriously ill or injured. RCH also provides a number of highly specialized acute care services such as tertiary trauma, cardiology, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, neurosurgery, and vascular surgery that often require the care of multiple medical specialists, multidisciplinary care teams, and the use of specialized equipment and technology.
We have an exciting opportunity for Nurse Practitioners to join our Cardiac Consult Services team at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC. Given the specialized nature of this role, the Cardiac Consult NP (CC NP) model is a collaborative, co-managed, team-based approach to patient care, where the cardiologists remain MRP or consultant of the patients. As part of this rewarding role, the NP works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a consultative capacity with a coordinated approach to ensure safe, quality, effective, and timely care for patients. The NPs will work Monday to Friday (7.5 hours/day) excluding weekends and statutory holidays. By creating two NP positions in the cardiac consult service, the hospital can better manage patient volumes with complex co-morbidities, ensure efficient utilization of resources, and enhance the quality of cardiac care provided during this period of increased demand.
Come be a part of our innovative and unique cardiac consult service team at RCH in New Westminster. New Westminster is located on the north side of the Fraser River with several bordering municipalities in each direction (Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey, and Delta), making it the centre of the Greater Vancouver region. The city is only about 30 minutes (20 km) from Vancouver’s city centre and 30 minutes to Washington state, USA.
This position will also have a new and exciting postgraduate up to 6-month nurse practitioner residency program for eligible applicants. The Royal Columbian hospital is prime for the NP Residency program due to the multitude of programs and services it offers. You will receive in-depth in-house advanced training within a clinical area relevant to Cardiology, improve your team collaboration and develop a model of patient-centered care. This is a competency-based residency and mentorship program to support the development of new NP knowledge related to the Cardiac program and building on competencies for NP practice. FH is the first health authority to implement a formal residency program for NPs in the province, which will be key to supporting the development of NPs and practice-readiness in select programs. As Cardiology is a highly specialized area of practice, the residency will consist of dedicated time for both didactic learning and hands-on clinical experiences. The NP will gradually be orientated to the program at RCH while they are completing their residencies.
Examples of in-house residency rotations: Electrophysiology, Interventional Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Internal Medicine, ICU, CSICU, Respirology etc.
During your residency, you’ll receive:
You will be welcomed into a New Graduate NP Community of Practice team helping to support your successful transition into independent practice. Be part of our clinical enhancement program with regular in-house skills development such as suturing, Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) and x-ray interpretation in addition to receiving centralized NP orientation.
