Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reports to the Manager, Department Head, or designate. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the Stroke clinic in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia. Utilizes knowledge and clinical expertise in hyper acute cerebrovascular syndrome and TIA care and management and/or seniors and/or dementia care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
- Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Canadian Nursing Association specialty certification in specialty area, such as neurosciences nursing preferred. Two (2) years clinical research experience or an equivalent combination of education and training in research, preferred. Two years' recent experience with Hyper acute cerebrovascular syndrome/TIA care, seniors and/or dementia care, or two years' stroke neuro experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience or training. Current ECG certificate and basic CPR certificate required.
Skills And Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current theories, technologies and best practice in specialty area including geriatrics, geriatric psychiatry, neurology, hyper acute cerebrovascular syndrome/, TIA triage, assessment, anatomy, physiology and treatment, as well as related risk factor modification and prevention, and self management principles.
- Demonstrated ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of internal and external contacts, including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients, residents and families.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate change and implement best practices.
- Demonstrated computerized software skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and internet access and ability to operate a computerized subject care information system.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice related to clinical research.
