We have an exciting opportunity for two Nurse Practitioners to join our General Surgery Team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital (ARH) in Abbotsford, BC. As part of this rewarding role the NP works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team with a coordinated approach to ensure safe, quality, effective, and timely care for patients.
Bring your clinical expertise and passion for providing quality, compassionate care to a challenging and rewarding role as a Nurse Practitioner (NP). The ARH General Surgery Team is a collaborative group that focuses on the colon cancer and other complex general procedures. The inclusion of the NP into the team is of great benefit for managing this population due to their needs for integration of care across disciplines and continuity of care. The Nurse Practitioner is one of the main points of contact that builds the plan with the physicians, patients and allied team members. The NP is also integral for the family in providing consistency, empathic support and education.
These patients have complex medical needs and will require in-patient monitoring, co-ordination of care needs, education and optimization of therapy. The NP will be working with the team which comprises surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiology and other medical specialists. Registered nurses, social workers, Dietitian, Pharmacist are some of the other integral team members the NP will be working with for the coordinated care of these patients.
In addition, the general surgery population is quite diverse, there is opportunity to expand and to collaborate with partner NPs towards fulsome care of the entire general surgery population.
Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre is a 280 bed, University of British Columbia affiliated hospital offering medical, surgical, obstetrics, inpatient pediatrics, renal, cardiology, tertiary palliative care, helipad, as well as 24/7 emergency services with nearly 80,000 visits annually.
Abbotsford is located in the heart of the Fraser Valley, one hour (70km) southeast of Vancouver’s city centre. This large rural city in the country is set against stunning views of British Columbia’s (BC) Coast Mountains and Washington’s Mount Baker. With a lower cost of living than Metro Vancouver, the area attracts residents who want a slower pace and enjoy a small-town feel. Here what the team has to say about their experience working and/or living in Abbotsford.
This is a great opportunity for a new Nurse Practitioner to join a well supported fellowship program to help consolidate clinical skills. Be part of our clinical enhancement program with regular in house skills development such as suturing and x-ray interpretation in addition to receiving centralized NP orientation. You will be welcomed into a New Graduate NP Community of Practice team helping to support your successful transition into independent practice.
This position will also have a new and exciting post graduate up to 6 month nurse practitioner residency program. The Abbottsford Regional Hospital and cancer center (ARH) is a BC center of Excellence prime for the acute care NP Residency program due to the multitude of program and services it offers. You will receive in depth in house advanced training within a clinical area relevant to General Surgery, improve your team collaboration and develop a model of patient centred care. This is a competency-based residency and mentorship program to support the development of new NP knowledge related to the General Surgery program and building on competencies for NP practice.
FH is the first health authority to implement a formal residency program for NPs in the province, which will be key to supporting the development of NPs and practice-readiness in select programs. As General surgery is a highly specialized area of practice, the residency will consist of dedicated time for both didactic learning and hands-on clinical experiences. The NP will gradually be orientated to the General surgery program at ARH while they are completing their residencies.
Examples of in-house residency rotations: Internal Medicine, ICU, Cardiology, Emergency, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Surgery daycare etc.
