Part Time Hospitalist

Description:

Sensenbrenner Hospital is a modern 68-bed fully accredited teaching hospital which serves a population of 8,600 and a catchment area of approximately 11,000. Kapuskasing is a true Northern Ontario community with ample options for year-round outdoor recreation in a beautiful setting. Kapuskasing offers the amenities of the larger centres.

On-call Rooms:

On-call rooms are available for ED physicians. Locums typically fly into the Timmins airport prior to driving 2 hours northwest to Kapuskasing.

Medical Staff:

• Three General Surgery
• One GP Anesthetist
• One General Internal Medicine physician for inpatient consults
• Seven Family Physicians

Two local family physicians cover OB. A supportive, team-based environment is provided by our longstanding and experienced medical staff.

Services Available:

• Diagnostic imaging (including CT)
• Electrocardiography
• Lab services
• Physiotherapy
• Occupational therapy
• Respiratory therapy
• Chemotherapy

Virtual Critical Care is available for critically ill patients. Specialty services such as Orthopaedic surgery, ENT, OBS/GYNE, pediatrics, and psychiatry are accessible through our relationship with Timmins and District Hospital, Health Sciences North, and Criticall Ontario.

Teaching Opportunities:

Excellent teaching opportunities are affiliated with NOSM University.

Description of Duties:

• Hospitalists are on call from Friday 8:00 to the following Friday at 8:00 for ward, special care, and hospice patients
• Hospitalists are on call as surgical assist from Friday 8:00 to the following Friday at 8:00 for non-elective surgeries (optional)
• Hospitalists cover the Continuing Care Unit from 17:00 Friday until 08:00 Monday morning
• Hospitalists are responsible for admissions from 8:00 until 17:00

Remuneration:

There is a $6,000 weekly stipend. Billing is Fee for service including E-Codes. Typical billing ranges from $5,000 to $9,000 a week. CPSO certification is required.
