Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development (official title); ACOS/R&D at the Charles George VA Medical Center
-MD, DO, Pharm D or PsyD required (salary may vary depending on credentials/experience; incentive may be available)
-BE/BC and experience with writing for grants and grant applications (preferred)
-Staffing: ACOS/R&D supervises approximately 20 total personnel, which include: Program Specialist, Grants Specialist, Research Committee Coordinator, Study Coordinator Supervisor, Program Support Assistant and 9 Study Coordinators.
-Duties: Managing research protocols; attending R&D and IRB committees; no patients; 100% administrative
-Work schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30-4 pm with no call requirements; this is not a remote position
-Type of Research Studies: Industry Sponsored (14%)/Cooperative Studies Program (43%)/Investigator-Initiated Studies (43%)
-Growing department that works closely with Duke, Western Carolina and Mahec; active and large teaching program

-Malpractice Insurance VA physicians are covered under the Federal Tort Claims Act - 28 U.S.C. § 1346 and 28 U.S.C § 2671. Medical personnel have statutory immunity from "individual" malpractice liability while acting within the scope of employment; a VA physician cannot be sued in civil court for a malpractice (tort) claim.
