This announcement covers vacancies in multiple units/clinics within the Northeast Ohio VA Health Care System, to include: Medical and Surgical Intensive Care, Emergency Department; Step Down or Progressive Care; Telemetry; General Medicine & Surgical (Med-Surg); Operating Room; Pre & Post-Operative Care; Community Living Center, Hospice, and Short-term Rehab; Spinal Cord Injury Unit; Inpatient Psychiatry (Geriatric or Acute); Outpatient Mental Health; Continuous Veno-Venous Hemodialysis; Primary Care Clinics; Geriatric Extended Care Units; Community Care; Float Pool, Infusion Clinic, and other Specialty Areas. Please note, this announcement does not cover our Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Vacancies may not presently exist but may become available at any point during the opening period of this vacancy announcement. The incumbent will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include: Providing direct patient care to Veterans with minimal supervision. Preparing and administering medications, including vaccinations. Performs treatments and procedures within the scope of license and facility policy and procedures. Seeks assistance from appropriate resource person as needed. Actively communicates and listens clearly in writing and in speaking. Accurately reports changes in patients' medical and emotional condition. Provides safe, individualized, quality care nursing to patients with varying medical/emotional needs. Assigned schedule corresponds to specific area (Some areas require days, nights, weekends, rotating shifts and holidays) Variable shift (rotating all 3 tours), days/evening AND nights, rotating weekends and holidays. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must be a graduate of school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing. Must possess a full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i. e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-6: Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent fully meeting all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN/LVN. Applicants must meet the following: Technical proficiency in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Ability to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and to accurately recognize, report and record relevant] patient information. Ability to observe, identify and respond to the patient's needs for care. Ability to prepare and administers prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and performs treatments according to established policies/procedures. Knowledge and ability to recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations. Knowledge of handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and following the procedure. Preferred Experience: Minimum 1 year experience preferred. IV medication administration experience preferred.
