Prisma Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in South Carolina, seeks a Division Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. The Division Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine will lead our growing robust inpatient and outpatient practices while promoting the development of expertise in medical education, complex care, quality and safety, and research. Candidates should have excellent skills and experience in leadership, education, and research to further advance the success of our clinical and academic programs.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree and be BC in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and be eligible for licensure in S.C.
- Will demonstrate a strong record of scholarship and leadership.
- Will have strong clinical skills and interest in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
- Will have record of research creativity, independence, and productivity.
- Will show success in developing and maintaining successful inpatient and outpatient interdisciplinary programs.
- Must be able to build programs that engage diverse communities.
- Must have demonstrated success in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Optional:
- Candidate must show training and/or competency in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Advanced bronchoscopy procedures (Navigation with ENB and/or Robotic, peripheral, and linear EBUS, placement of endobronchial valves, endobronchial stents and management of complex airways disease).
- Candidate must demonstrate competency in placement and management of tunneled pleural catheters. Competency in medical thoracoscopy would be a plus.

- A strong understanding of how to build research opportunities and clinical practice partnerships in academic medicine.
- Ability to foster cross-departmental research and training through collaborations and partnerships among individuals who will work with you toward the common research goal of developing the latest advances in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting highly qualified and promising faculty and/or students.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills to build and maintain relationships with faculty, administration, trainees, and medical, nursing, and technical staff.
- Financial budgeting and resource management skills.
- Values and actively advocates for equity, diversity and inclusion within the division and health system.
- Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
- Ability to adhere to university policies and procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Help transform the division into an extensive clinical and academic team with the vision and mission to become the State of South Carolina’s clinical and academic center of excellence for Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep medicine.
- Provide the vision and administrative leadership for the Division’s clinical services, educational programs, research enterprise, and is responsible for budget and resource allocation.
- Provide leadership by strengthening the Division’s clinical and research endeavors in the face of the rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
- Build strong interdisciplinary partnerships within the School of Medicine, Prisma Health and providing strategic planning with other healthcare and community providers.
- Report to the Chair of the Department of Medicine.
- Academic appointment with University of South Carolina School of Medicine is commensurate with experience.
