The Division of Infectious Diseases (ID) in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM), St. Louis, MO seeks applicants for a full-time faculty member to serve as the Medical Director of Infection Prevention for BJC HealthCare. WUSM is home to a nationally recognized clinical infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship program, healthcare epidemiology research program, and infectious diseases fellowship. WUSM has been funded continuously for healthcare epidemiology and antimicrobial stewardship research since 1997 through the CDC Prevention Epicenters program, and multiple faculty members are national and international leaders in the field. WUSM also has a strong training and mentorship program for trainees and junior faculty interested in healthcare epidemiology and antimicrobial stewardship.
WUSM works in partnership with BJC HealthCare, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare organizations in the United States. BJC Healthcare employs over 30,0000 employees and serves patients and their families in urban, suburban, and rural communities through its 14 hospitals and over 120 community health locations. Services include inpatient and outpatient care, primary care, community health and wellness, occupational health, home health, community mental health, rehabilitation, long-term care, and hospice.
The candidate will provide strategic clinical and epidemiological leadership and support to BJC HealthCare teams managing the daily prevention of and emergency response to infectious threats to patients across the organization. In partnership with the BJC HealthCare, the Medical Director provides this leadership for all aspects of the work of the Infection Prevention team, and to the Occupational Health team y for infectious risks as indicated. The Medical Director provides support to the Chief Quality Officer, to whom they report for this role. The Medical Director provides clinical and epidemiologic guidance to other relevant teams and councils as needed, such as Patient Experience, Epic, Emergency Management, Chief Medical Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer councils, and may be included in system leadership meetings. The Medical Director is engaged in emergency and pandemic responses through Incident Command structures, providing expanded leadership as needed.
In addition to medical leadership for infection prevention and control activities for the BJC Healthcare System, the candidate will also participate in teaching and research activities in the ID division, attend on the ID consult service, and provide other patient care activities as needed. The candidate will work closely with a team of healthcare epidemiologists and mentor ID fellows who are on the Healthcare Epidemiology fellowship training track. Applicants should be BC/BE in Infectious Diseases and be eligible for a medical license in Missouri. Additional qualifications in clinical research or epidemiology would be an asset.
