The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) uses in-depth knowledge, skill, judgment, and clinical experience to advance the specialized care provided to patients and their families. Working in partnership with the physicians and other members of the inter-professional team, the CNS will advance nursing care and support for the trauma and critical care patients and families. This role will provide leadership in the development and implementation of educational programs, clinical guidelines, protocols, policy, and the promotion and use of evidence in practice. Evaluation of quality and the implementation of improvements will be key to the role. As well as participating in direct patient care, time will be allocated to education, evaluation and measurement, research, and consultation activities related to this patient population. An important component of this position will also include program development.

Unit Summary:
The Regional Trauma, Emergency, and Critical Care Program located at the Hamilton General Hospital, is a busy, fast-paced, high acuity program. The program consists of: Regional Trauma Program that cares for over 500 major trauma patients a year, an Emergency Department that supports all Regional programs at HGH as well as caring for our local community members, 31 critical care beds consisting of Med/Surg ICU and Neuro/Trauma ICU, 10 bed Burn Unit and 32 bed Trauma and General Surgical Unit which includes 6 L2 beds. The program provides tertiary clinical services to South Central Ontario.
