The Role
The Occupational Health Nurse Advisor provides an environment that supports safe and effective practice, complies with legislation and the policies of the organization and contributes to a healthy and safe workplace for employees working at PHO. Supporting the HR and management teams, the role promotes the health and well-being of employees and proactively manages and delivers occupational health services and programs. While the work is primarily focused at the Laboratory sites, some programs and services are provided across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Education And Experience
An undergraduate degree in Nursing with current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario. A diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and a current First Aid and BCLS is required. At least 2 years’ related Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) experience in a unionized setting.
Knowledge And Skills
Applies knowledge of standards of practice as outlined by the governing bodies of other disciplines, Ministry of Health guidelines, laboratory accreditation standards, access to information and confidentiality regulations, CSA Occupational Health standards, and legislative compliance, such as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Workers’ Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Ontario Human Rights Code (HRC), Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA), and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) to provide advice to clients and/or resolve issues related to workplace, disability, accommodation, return to work, and safety.
Attributes and Competencies
Written and oral communication skills to correspond with stakeholders on decisions related to accommodation, return to work, and illness/disability claims where there may be resistance to the decision; uses listening skills with internal and external stakeholders to surface issues/problems and develop solutions and manage emotionally charged situations.

Hours of Work: Full time, 36.25 hours per week
