Position Overview
The main function of this position is to provide direct and indirect care under the supervision of the nurse to a selected group of residents. The minimum education, experience and qualifications for this position are: current certification as a nursing assistant with the Illinois Department of Public Health; able to speak, read, write and comprehend English skills needed to use medical terminology on the job; ability to do simple arithmetic; good communication skills; interest in working with older adults; and general knowledge of the needs of geriatric residents
Essential Functions
+ Communicates effectively with residents, families, co-workers, supervisors, other employees, volunteers and visitors.
+ Listens for and responds to information about the person's history, current status, important memories, favorite stories, daily routines, comfort/ reminiscence objects, and people of importance.
+ Empowers persons with dementia to make decisions each day.
+ Addresses the unique needs of persons with dementia.
+ Collaborates with other team members within and across departments in decision-making.
+ Interact with residents to meet their social and recreational needs, fosters relationships between residents
+ Organize, lead, and facilitate planned and spontaneous activities of resident choice and neighborhood preference.
+ Gather residents for programs & provide instruction, motivation and assistance with programs and projects.
+ Maintain attendance records of activity programs for resident participation.
+ Transports residents to therapies, activities and appointments.
+ Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Skills/Qualifications
+ Certified Nursing Assistant Certification.
+ Reading, writing, and comprehension skills are needed to use medical terminologies on the job.
+ Ability to do simple arithmetic
+ Good communication skills
+ Long-term care experience preferred but not required
+ General knowledge of the needs of general patients.
