On behalf of Dr. Greg Conners, Chair of Pediatrics at SUNY Upstate Medical University, CareerPhysician, LLC, the national thought leader in pediatric academic executive search, is pleased to inform you of the inception of a national search to identify a dynamic and talented leader to serve as the next Division Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
The selected Division Leader will be charged with expanding the regional IBD and complex nutritional care center and maintaining ready access for an expanding pediatric population. The division hopes to seize an immediate opportunity to serve as the primary referral center for children with intestinal failure and complex nutritional needs, working closely with multidisciplinary groups locally and regionally, and improving home care access and communication for patients and their families. Though not required, the Department Chair is prepared to support leaders who have vested interests in research and ongoing projects.
Opportunity Highlights:• The Pediatric Gastroenterology Division is one of the foundation service lines for Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and includes regional experts and specialties that include inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure, aerodigestive, viral hepatitis, and behavioral feeding analysis.• The division includes 3 gastroenterologists, 4 nurse practitioners, 2 dieticians, and a dedicated psychologist, with departmental support to add two additional PED GI faculty to support the division and newly named leader. • The division maintains an exceptional level of involvement in medical school and pediatric residency education.• The division has longstanding and successful involvement in the ImproveCareNow program, the largest collaborative quality improvement network for kids with IBD in the nation. • The named Division Director will have the opportunity to recruit additional faculty to develop comprehensive Pediatric GI specific programs. Faculty mentorship and retention, development of niche areas of expertise improving access, increasing scholarly opportunities for faculty, expanding the division involvement in multidisciplinary care teams (aerodigestive center, feeding center, etc.) and comprehensive mentorship opportunities for junior faculty in the Department of Pediatrics are additional objectives.• The pediatric GI faculty perform procedures in the Children’s Surgical Center, located in University Hospital. The Pediatric GI division has one dedicated OR room designated for endoscopy, staffed by pediatric endoscopy/OR nurses and tech staff, with 24-hour coverage. The division enjoys close collaboration with the adult GI endoscopy suite as needed. • Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital is unwavering in providing fiscal support to expand Pediatric Gastroenterology faculty and services to manage unexpected patient surges. In addition, the institution provides salary funding for the faculty. • The faculty define the biggest strengths of the program as follows: collegial faculty and staff, dedicated and loyal patient population, well trained and robust nursing and clinic support staff, departmental focus on expanding GI services, supportive departmental and medical school administration, appropriate productivity expectations and healthy life/work balance compared to other programs• The Upstate University Health System serves 1.8 million people, often the most seriously ill and injured, and includes Upstate University Hospital, Upstate University Hospital at Community Campus, Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, and numerous satellite sites.
