Department: Emergency Medical Services
Reports To: EMS Manager/Supervisor
SIGN ON BONUS OF $7,500
SUMMARY
The mission and purpose of this position are to compassionately deliver high-quality service, and basic as well as advanced patient care in a professional, caring and cost-effective manner, as directed by the physician.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
Communicate with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
Communicate with patient and loved ones to provide information and assurance that care is being given, and to show compassion.
Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
Drive the ambulance or provide map reading support to minimize call response time.
Keep current on certifications.
Coach and educate partners of new and changing information as necessary.
Communicate with dispatcher to receive and understand call data and customer feedback.
Observe, record, and report to the physician, the patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant events.
Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal call response.
Participate in community programs to maintain image and establish strong community relations.
Document activities completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, advanced education preferred. Past work experience in cardiac care or in critical care transport is preferred. Driving record in compliance with Welia Health policy regarding insurability.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license. Current State of Minnesota Paramedic Certification. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, BTLS, or PHTLS Provider Certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Required to carry patients up and down stairways with limited help. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Prolonged sitting in ambulance while on transfers. Required to perform duties in ambulance while ambulance is transporting. (Sense of balance is very important.)
