POSITION: Clinical Nurse Lead ER / Medical Surgical, Home Base Medical Surgical
REPORTS TO: Manager Inpatient Services
STATUS: Full Time Extended Tour
START DATE: March 11, 2024

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years acute care experience in emergency and/or medicine with the ability to work both

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Apply and uphold CNO professional relationship standards
• Demonstrate and promote accountability in practice
• Practice and support teamwork and a positive work environment for inter- and intra-departmental matters
• Participate in daily Interdepartmental Huddle throughout the shift as need arises
• Facilitate daily discharge focused rounds on inpatient unit
• Collaborate with team members on difficult discharges, complex patient and family situations, patients with frequent Emergency visits that could benefit from a Coordinated Plan of Care
• Daily bed allocation/bed management
• Coordination of nursing resources throughout the shift including patient assignment, transfers, break coverage and general workload management
• Evaluate available staffing resources to determine the need for additional staff, reductions or cancellations
• Actively participate in the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives
• Apply clinical expertise in the development and review of standards of practice in collaboration with managers
• Mentorship and support for staff in routine or crises situations
• Promote critical thinking and innovative problem solving. Manage conflict resolution

QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES:

• Understanding of CNO practice standards
• Excellent time management skills
• Experience in change management. Understanding of LEAN and / or Quality Improvement theories
• Commitment to evidence based practice
• Exceptional conflict resolution skills. Excellent communication skills
• Experience in quality improvement initiatives. Project Management, education
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Commitment to LWHA mission, vision, and values
• BCLS, ACLS, Defibrillation and NRP Certification. Pediatric training (PALS / ENPC)
• Trauma education (TNCC / ETLS)
• Canadian Emergency Department Triage and Acuity Scale Training (CTAS)
• Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation Course, 12 Lead Interpretation Course.

Preferred:

• Formal leadership training, Completion of formal Mentorship program
• Gentle Persuasion
• Maternal Newborn Course
• Critical Care Course. CNA Emergency, Med-Surg, Critical Care or Perinatal Nursing Certification

HOURS OF WORK: Ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays
