Quinte Health Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) is seeking additional family medicine physicians with an interest in emergency medicine. Coverage is provided to both services by an engaged rural group of 23 physicians from the Prince Edward Family Health Team. Your hospital (emergency and inpatient) work will be combined with a full FHO spot, as well as practice-sharing opportunities with pending FHO spots. Short- and long-term locum work is also available.
Physicians who join the FHO will maintain an office practice in Prince Edward County (Picton or Wellington), provide coverage to inpatients at PECMH and are strongly encouraged to provide coverage in the emergency department at PECMH.
Physicians can enjoy comprehensive medicine in a rural setting. The PECMH 24-hour Emergency Department has over 13,200 visits annually and there are 16 inpatient beds. The team includes highly trained and skilled nurses and support staff. ER mentorship with senior physicians is available and ER work is paid through an AFP. QHC PECMH also has specialty clinics and an endoscopy suite. Plans for a new hospital are underway.
PECMH is supported by a secondary level hospital in Belleville, approximately 30 minutes away. Belleville General Hospital offers access to an MRI and CT scanner and 24-hour support from internal medicine, intensive care, general surgery, orthopaedics, urology, pediatrics, anesthesia, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, otolaryngology, and radiology. Tertiary care centres are located in Kingston, Toronto and Oshawa.
Applicants must hold Canadian Citizenship and be licensed or eligible for license to practice in Ontario with accreditation in Family Medicine by The College of Physicians of Canada (CCFP). Supervision may be available.
The FHO group is very collegial and supportive of new grads. Many in the group teach medical students and family medicine residents from Queen's University and University of Ottawa.
FHO physicians lead the innovative Prince Edward Family Health Team which provides enhanced primary care programs including mental health, the maternal infant child program, diabetes education, the coordinated care program for our elderly population, cardiac rehab, palliative care and numerous others. We have regular access to numerous visiting specialists. Visit www.pefht.ca to learn more about all the programs.
The island of Prince Edward County is an Ontario gem with year-round outdoor activities, as well as numerous arts and naturalist groups. It is home to Sandbanks Provincial Park, a summer favourite in Ontario. The economy is predominantly agricultural with an ever-growing food and beverage industry and fine dining opportunities.
