Calian is proud to continue a long-standing contractual relationship with the Department of National Defence (DND) to provide healthcare services to the Canadian Armed Forces. Through the Health Care Provider Contract, Calian employs health care professionals across Canada who are integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of our military members.
Position Overview
Calian is seeking a Primary Care Physician to add to our clinical team working at CFB Halifax. Full time and part time hours are available. The physician functions as an essential member of the health care team in the provision of comprehensive, multidisciplinary, collaborative primary health care services to Canadian Armed Forces members. These services include primary care, occupational, minor trauma care, health promotion, prevention of diseases and injuries, rehabilitation, and support services.
Responsibilities
• Provide Comprehensive primary medical care to patients with acute and chronic health conditions including referral to other health care providers when warranted.
• Deliver occupational health services such as, but not limited to:
o assessments of medical fitness for duty, including pre- and post- deployment, Periodic Health Assessment, hazardous occupation assessments, and post-illness or injury.
o diagnosis and treatment of occupational and environmental injuries and illnesses, including rehabilitation.
o establishment of patient Medical Employment Limitations (MEL), approve and recommend sick leave, and assign and recommend changes in medical category in accordance with policies.
• Referral of patients for participation in programs for the use of indicated personal protective devices – hearing conservation, respiratory protection program.
• Communicate with Senior Medical Authority on relevant clinical matters such as CF Spectrum of Care, complex patients requiring multi- disciplinary intervention, individual operational readiness.
• Maintain patient medical information in Electronic Health Record and patient health records.
Qualifications
• Licensed and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
• Certification in Family Medicine with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
• Basic Life Support for Health Providers or CPR/AED Level C

• You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
