Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 8:00a to 4:00p, with hour paid break each shift
Position Classification: Nursing B
Wage Range: $31.91 up to $36.63 based on education and related experience.
The ASK Wellness Society is an Accredited, not-for-profit organization. Position Summary:
As the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will work in collaboration with the Coordinator of Supportive Housing, performing assessment/planning, implementing, and providing medical care to clients. The LPN operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and practice within the Standards of Practice as outlines by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). As an LPN, you will assist with life skills services to Program Participants who may struggle with mental health concerns, substance misuse challenges and chronic health conditions. Service delivery is based on a client centered, trauma informed and non-judgmental perspective.
Typical Duties Include:
- Encourage and support Program Participants to live as fully and independently as possible.
- Provide supervision and support to mitigate individual and program risk to ensure safety, comfort, and wellness.
- Interview Program Participants and examine their medical history.
- Take Program Participants vital signs such as respiration, temperature, blood pressure and heart rate.
- Address Program Participants present concerns, allergies, medications and review their medical records.
- Clean and dress wounds and assist with other basic medical care tasks.
- Provide emotional and psychological support when needed.
- When approved by Coordinator, assist Program Participants with travel to doctor appointments and hospital intakes/discharges.
- Help to develop and potentially provide future clinical opioid substitution programs;
- When requested provide additional Nursing services to other ASK Wellness Society supportive housing settings;
- Provide crisis intervention as required including overdose responses by ensuring immediate access to medical services and completing necessary incident reports when required.
- Assist with meal service and/or preparation and common area cleanliness.
- Assist team with maintaining daily log, medication log/prescriptions (ensure book is updated, all meds accounted for and follow ups on prescriptions to ensure medication is up to date);
- Complete accurate and up to date communication/case notes.
- Maintain files and statistics as per accreditation standards.
- Complete move in/move out documentation as required by the Property Services Department.
- When requested, be a member of the Society’s Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) team.
- Ensure compliance with all Society policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Graduation from a recognized program for Licenced Practical Nurse.
- Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Two (2) years recent experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse providing care through trauma informed lens with vulnerable adults, mental health/addiction/homelessness issues. Or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
- Strong ability to recognize and address difficult behaviors.
- Good communication, documentation, interpersonal and conflict management skills.
- Ability to work within a team-based environment involving multi-agency supports.
- Strong working knowledge of community resources.
- Understands and maintains professional boundaries.
- Valid drivers license, safe driving record and reliable/appropriate transportation with business use coverage.
- Must pass an acceptable criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 required.
- Readiness to complete in-house online training within the first month of employment.
- Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and Trauma Informed Practice an asset.
- As Program Participants are allowed to have pets, it is noted that this is a pet friendly environment.
