YRH is a community site for the Core Internal Medicine program at Dalhousie University with approximately 4-5 residents per year. In addition, a fellowship program for the R4 and R5 fellows provides two fellows per year full-time.
YRH offers echocardiography, exercise stress testing with nuclear imaging and pharmacologic stress testing, pacemaker follow up, endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy), bronchoscopy, PFTs, sleep studies, peritoneal dialysis, and hemodialysis (acute and chronic). The Intensive Care Unit has its own portable ultrasound machine. There is a Cardiac Rehab Clinic managed by a nurse and physiotherapist in collaboration with Internal Medicine physicians. Traveling internal medicine clinics to small communities in the Western Zone, particularly Digby and Shelburne, provide outreach services.
Originally founded in 1912, YRH has developed into a vast health care complex serving the 60,000 people of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby Counties. YRH has 124 inpatient beds and provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient and satellite programs:
