Site Lead: Provincial Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology (BH 466)
Our client is seeking a Site Lead for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for a 24 month (renewable) job term in the province of Prince Edward Island.
Reporting to the Provincial Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Site Lead is responsible for providing on-site leadership for the Provincial Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and supporting a reciprocal relationship between the Department’s medical staff at the QEH and the Provincial Department as a whole. The QEH Site Lead works in partnership with members of the Medical Affairs Office (MAO) and their Department leadership , colleagues to build, and maintain, collaborative networks, in order to ensure the overall functionality of the Department’s medical services and associated medical workforce. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to communicate complex information, problem solve and work collaboratively as part of a team.
JOB DUTIES:
- Encourage and support a positive work environment to foster high staff morale and quality medical services.
- Plan for, and ensure, the appropriate utilization of medical human resources for Department staff at the QEH (i.e., call schedule, approving leaves of absence, etc.).
- Work collaboratively with the Provincial Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology to support regular performance appraisals for the Department’s medical staff at the QEH (in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws).
- Support the Provincial Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology by providing comprehensive advice and recommendations using subject-matter expertise with respect to site-specific Departmental matters.
- Work collaboratively with the Provincial Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the MAO to review, assess and plan medical staff resources, workload and staffing to determine human resource requirements and address human resource concerns in support of providing continued quality medical services.
- Work closely with the Department of Surgery, and with the Site Lead of ObGyn at Prince County Hospital.
- The QEH Site Lead is expected to be a member of the OR Committee, and to attend the meetings of the Department of Surgery.
- When requested, work with the Provincial Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the MAO to recruit Department medical staff (including locums).
- Participate actively in various medical staff committees, as requested.
- Regularly attend Physician Leadership Community meetings, as appropriate and required.
- Support change management and associated activities related to the implementation of the Physician Leadership Review Project.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a Medical Degree from a recognized medical school, in a relevant clinical specialty.
- Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI.
- Eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
- Must have considerable (3-5 years) and relevant clinical practice experience.
- Must have considerable (1-3 years) leadership experience, preferably in a health/medical field, demonstrated equivalences will be accepted.
- Must have knowledge of the Canadian health care system.
- Experience applying the principles of a Just Culture approach is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of administrative management and leadership principles is considered an asset.
- Knowledge and use of clinical practice/best practice guidelines considered an asset
