Permanent Neurology Opportunity

Overview

The Hospital serves a catchment of over 170,000 residents and more than 2 million short-stay visitors each year and is a Designated Stroke Centre.


There is an immediate need to increase the physician complement to two full-time Neurologists as part of a vibrant community practice including daily consultations to the ER, in-patient and out-patient work.

Total ER stroke cases have increased 17% from last year and will continue to rise as more stroke patients are diverted here for care. The Stroke Prevention Clinic has seen a 31% rise in appointments over the past year and the wait list for out-patient referrals is now up to one year.

Presently, after-hours and weekend call is covered by the Internal Medicine group. There is an Intensivist supported 6-bed closed ICU, a strong Hospitalist program and a well-resourced 16-bed rehabilitation unit. The Stroke Unit is supported by a full interprofessional team (NP, OT, PT, SLP, SW, RD, CCAC care coordinator) that rounds daily. They are also a participating organization with the Provincial Telestroke program.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold applicable FRCPC designation.
  • Independent license to practice in Ontario.
  • US Board certified Internal Medicine physicians are eligible for a independent license in Ontario.
  • Interest and experience in stroke management an asset.

Remuneration:

  • $300,000 to $350,000 (fee-for-service).


With annual ER volumes of over 90,000 visits, 24-hour labs, excellent specialty back-up, and comprehensive diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, PACS capability, video-EEG), this modern facility is very well equipped.
