We are looking for a new team member! A professional, warm, welcoming registered dental hygienist. We are a well-established not-for-profit practice in downtown Victoria, with our primary focus on client-centered care. The dental hygienist must be culturally and socioeconomically sensitive and be willing to learn and help others.

Reporting to the Dental Manager, the Dental Hygienist performs a wide range of activities. These include assessing the status of the teeth and mouth and providing preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene care for teeth and adjacent tissues.
Responsibilities
Clinical Functions
- Provide an assessment for each patient.
- Provide an appropriate treatment plan based on assessment.
- Evaluate treatment and alter plan as needed.
- Determine the state of dental health of each patient using current as well as historical medical and dental records and through clinical observation at the time of assessment.
Using the assessment guide, plan an appropriate treatment regime for each patient. Explain the recommended treatment to each patient including cost (if applicable), time involved, expected outcomes, benefits and possible side effects. Adjust the treatment plan with consultation and agreement of the patient and attending dentist. Implement the agreed upon treatment plan.
Evaluate the success or failure of the treatment plan and make adjustments as required with consultation and agreement of the patient and attending dentists.
Key Abilities
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, diplomacy, and tact in handling confidential and sensitive matters, particularly in interacting with administrative and medical staff.
- Able to communicate effectively with the dental team, medical professionals and external contacts. Ability to work with various dental terminologies, billing codes etc.
- Ability to work with the social services billing system and an understanding of how to work within the limitations of that system.
- Ability to engage in risk management in terms of health and safe practices.
Qualifications
Education
Graduation from a recognized Dental Hygiene program.
Experience
A minimum of three years of experience in a busy dental practice. Experience and/or a good understanding of working with marginalized peoples or people with mental health and/or engaging in substance use is an asset.
Requirements
- A member in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia.
- Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.
Job Information
Hourly Wage Rate Starting at $38.11. Starting wage is commensurate with experience.
Work Location Cool Aid Dental Clinic – 713 Johnson St.
Work Days Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Shift Time Monday and Wednesday 8:30 to 4:30, Friday 8:00 to 3:30. A 30-minute paid lunch break is included.
Total Weekly Hours 23.5
Union Exempt.
Job Type Part time – Permanent. As of November 1, 2021, Cool Aid requires that all its staff are fully vaccinated (7 days past their second dose of vaccine) against COVID-19.
