Under the general supervision of the Director of Healing and Harm Reduction, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing primary health care services to Main Street Project clients. This includes independent nursing services and continuous care toward the management of client’s health, administration of prescribed medical treatments, collaboration and interaction within the healthcare team and participation in the coordination of client care. Primary focus of the position is in the Withdrawal Management Services at MSP. The nurse practitioner will also advise and provide guidance to MSP harm reduction programs and work.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs comprehensive health assessments using sound clinical judgment, diagnostic and therapeutic skills to evaluate patients' physical and mental health.
- Conduct patient interviews, physical assessments and take medical histories.
- Advise clients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention.
- Consults with physicians or other health care professionals when the client's condition requires care beyond the scope of NP practice.
- Ensures work aligns with guidance from the Manitoba College of Nursing.
- Implements strategies to promote health and prevent illness with clients.
Education & Qualifications
- Master's degree in nursing; or completion of a nursing program with additional advanced or extended primary health care nursing education; and several years of relevant practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Registration as a Nurse Practitioner within the province of Manitoba is required.
- CPR / AED Level C certificate.
- Work independently as a nurse practitioner, performing advanced health assessment, diagnosis, therapeutic interventions and health care management of various acute and chronic illnesses.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to meet physical demands as required by the job - ability to lift items as heavy as 50 lbs.
- May be exposed to infectious waste, communicable diseases, condition, etc.
- Interacts with residents, family members, staff, visitors, and government agencies.
- Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, and supporting clients.
